Audit Your Leadership With These Questions

One of the best leadership habits I’ve ever built is taking time to check in with myself before I check in with my team.

Below are 3 sets of questions I use to audit my own leadership, and I challenge you to do the same.

People & Presence

Intentional leaders pay attention to the things that others overlook. These questions help you tune into your team — not just what they do, but how they’re doing.

  • Who on my team feels most supported right now, and who might feel overlooked?
  • Who’s been carrying more than their share without saying a word?

  • Who’s quietly doing great work without recognition?

Clarity & Impact

Teams don’t magically drift into alignment. It happens when leaders create it on purpose. Ask yourself:

  • Is our team clear on where we’re going, or are they just busy staying “on track”?
  • What assumptions am I making about what others understand?

  • Does every person on our team know the value they bring?

  • When’s the last time I helped someone connect their work to the bigger picture?

Culture & Example

What you model as a leader often matters more than what you say. These questions bring the focus back to your example.

  • What part of our culture am I reinforcing through my own habits?

  • Am I showing up the way I’d want to be led?

  • Am I building spaces where people feel safe speaking honestly?
  • What’s one habit I need to delete, defer, or delegate?

You don’t need a full plan to grow. You just need to start.

Take five minutes. Choose a couple questions that hit home. Then take the step to lead differently today.
